Ebooks for Download
and
Ebook Readers Explained

Have you seen the terms ‘ebook’, ‘e-reader’, or ‘ebook reader’ and wondered what this new technology was all about and whether it was for you?

For the benefit of those who are unfamiliar with the exciting new world of electronic books but would like to learn more about it, let me explain a few of the basics and, hopefully, encourage you to take the plunge. After all, this is the future of publishing we are talking about.

Ebooks

Ebooks, sometimes written as e-books or electronic books, are the same as a book you would buy in a store except that they are produced as computer files. This means that they can be read on a computer, an ebook reader, a palm pilot or a similar PDA device.

Because ebooks exist as computer files, you have the option of either printing the book yourself to read, or of reading it on the screen of the ebook reader of your choice.

Believe it or not, you can store hundreds, in some cases thousands, of books on one ebook reader. This allows you to build your own portable library without taking up any precious storage space in your bedroom, living room, study or wherever you normally keep your books.

The financial benefit of buying ebooks comes from the considerable cost savings of not having the book printed, bound and stocked at bookstores.

When you purchase a book online, it is known as a ‘download’. And downloading is easy! It is simply the process of moving a computer file of the book from the supplier’s website across to your device. And it all happens in seconds! You can do this either through your computer or directly to your ebook reader depending on which ebook reader you choose.

Simple as that! Even better is that you can buy four or five ebooks, sometimes even more, for the usual shelf-price of a paperback.

Ebook Readers

Currently, Kindle is by far the most popular ebook reader on the market. But it is a proprietary product of Amazon, which means that ebooks purchased through Amazon can only be read on a Kindle ebook reader. If you have already purchased an ebook reader other than a Kindle, please refer to Buying Books Online to find out where to buy Tony Thistlewood’s ebooks in the correct format for your reader.

You will find that using an ebook reader is just like reading a normal page of a book except that you can adjust the size of the font to your liking!

All the ebook readers mentioned below are considerably lighter than an average paperback. Great for reading in bed… on a train… a boat… a plane… just about anywhere. (On a beach or in a swimming pool definitely not recommended!!)
